The Evaristo Márquez Film Festival is a meaningful tribute to the cinema of Afro-descendant cultures in Colombia — a space that, throughout the years, has brought together important figures from both national and international cinema. This edition, held from November 21 to 24, 2024, reaffirmed the importance of continuing to create spaces for dialogue, memory, and cultural representation through the art of filmmaking.

It was a true honor to be invited to participate as a jury member for projects of such significance to Afro-Colombian cinema and Colombian cinema as a whole. My sincerest thanks to Jen Zapateiro for her kind invitation and for the trust placed in my work.

I would also like to thank all the participants and colleagues with whom I had the opportunity to share during these days, including Yuldor Gutiérrez, Andrés Londoño, Juan Acevedo, Tim Miller, among many others. It was a deeply enriching experience to take part in this gathering in the beautiful city of Cartagena and the historic town of San Basilio de Palenque — territories filled with identity, history, and culture.
