Winkat, a beautiful short documentary produced by Buenavida Films and directed by Oscar Jiménez.
For several years, the indigenous Wayuu population has faced issues with access to drinking water in the La Guajira region of Colombia, leading to health and nutrition problems within their communities.
This documentary takes the audience on the journey of a young Wayuu boy as he strives to obtain water for his family’s basic needs. It also portrays his dream of being able to enjoy this precious resource at all times and in every possible way.
Musically, for this project, we have chosen to incorporate primarily electronic and ethnic sounds from La Guajira (such as the trompa, Wayuu flute, and vocals), as well as African percussion elements (Djembé) and other drums to enhance the rhythm of the narration.
It has been an honor to be part of this project and to tell this story in a simple yet powerful way.
By the way, if you’re wondering, Winkat means “Water” in Wayuunaiki, the native language of the Wayuu community
